2024-11-07 New PhD studentship available
Applications are invited for a fully-funded PhD studentship (home or overseas) at Aston University in integrating millimetre-wave radar for smart healthcare monitoring systems. You will join the Department of Applied AI and Robotics as a PhD student, and collaborate with Legrand Care Ltd. who are partially sponsoring this project plus a four-month placement during the studentship.
An increase in the elderly population across the world has drawn rising attention recently. Over the age of 65, older adults may face greater physical and mental risks living alone at home, including a decline in mobility, falls that require immediate medical attention, and other sudden illnesses. These pose challenges not only to older individuals’ health and wellbeing but to public medical services. This project aims to create a low-power, ubiquitous, non-invasive millimeter-wave (mmWave) enabled monitoring system for elderly individuals living independently. Empowered by Deep Learning, a mmWave radar-enabled healthcare monitoring system will provide continuous, privacy-preserving services of vital signs estimation, fall detection, as well as activity recognition to enhance safety and quality of life for the elderly people. The major research goal is to create a reliable elderly activity recognition and incident detection system to facilitate Legrand Care’s next-gen smart healthcare services.
Supervisors: Zhuangzhuang Dai, Luis J. Manso, and Victor Chang.
